Refuse Disposal ごみ
|
It is important to be aware of the methods for disposing and collecting rubbish in Japan. There should be a sign close to where you live or in your apartment building indicating where you should put your rubbish. You should separate your rubbish, and put it out on the designated collection day before 8:00am. For exact collection days, it would be best to ask your neighbour.
Collectible rubbish falls in four categories:
1. COMBUSTIBLE: Anything which burns, collected twice weekly
2. NONCOMBUSTIBLE: Collected weekly
3. RECYCLABLE ITEMS: Cans/bottles, collected twice a month
4. LARGE ITEMS: Call the Waste Management Bureau to ascertain collection days
DISPOSING OF WASTE
1. Put all rubbish in clear plastic bags.
2. Cardboard boxes and large paper items should be folded into a small bundle.
3. Cooking oil should not be drained because it will clog up the drain pipe. Instead it should be soaked up in paper and then thrown away with the rest of the combustible rubbish.
