RAINY SEASON
Most of Kagoshima’s rain falls during the months of June and July. The characteristic heat and humidity causes food to rot and encourages mould growth, especially on bedding, clothes and shoes.
The rainy season in itself is not a natural disaster, but there is the danger of flooding, landslides and other side effects. Due to large amounts of rain, it is quite common for public transport to be either delayed or stopped. Please allow extra time to get places.
How to cope.....
1. Open your home up regularly, allowing fresh air to circulate.
2. Use dehumidifying agents in cupboards and drawers.
3. Leave breathing space between furniture and walls and for any narrow spaces.
4. Keep all food in the refrigerator- heat and humidity causes rotting, and possible food poisoning.
5. Take extra care with general household hygiene.
6. You might want to buy a hygrometer, which helps control the amount of moisture in your home. If the level is adjusted to 50% it will maintain the correct level. Many air conditioners are now fitted with a dehumidifying cycle, and this is also quite effective.
