MINAYOSHI-CHO NATURE TRAIL
After a four kilometre climb up the hill, one can enjoy the panoramic views from the top. The climb takes approximately one and a half hours. To get there, take the Hayashida Bus for Tsukaya and get off at Minayoshi Nokyo-mae stop.
MOUNT EBOSHI NATURE TRAIL-1
Located in Hirakawa-cho, this nature trail stretches for 8.4 km and takes approximately three hours to cover. It is a hiking course through hilly countryside and offers views of many kinds of flora and fauna. Take the Kagoshima Kotsu Bus for Hirakawa Zoo and get off at Hirakawa.
MOUNT EBOSHI NATURE TRAIL-2
Also in Hirakawa-cho, this is a shorter, but no less spectacular nature trail. One can reach the end of the 4.3 km course in about two hours, and from the observatory enjoy views of Kinko Bay. The Eboshi Shrine is a highlight. Get off at the Kirakawa train stop on the Ibusuki- Makurazaki JR line, or catch a Kagoshima Bus to Hirakawa.
SHIROYAMA NATURE TRAIL
This is a popular trail located in the central city, and noted for its many historical sites. The two kilometre course offers sights including the remains of Tsurumaru and Kain Castles, the statue of Saigo Takamori, the Terukuni Shrine, Monument to Loyal Retainers, Saigo’s place of death and the remains of the private school, and should take about half an hour to complete.
TERAYAMA NATURE TRAIL
Catch the Nangoku Kotsu Bus to Mitsui New Town in Yoshino-cho. The one hour, 2.5km course includes sights such as the Remains of the Nanshu Cultivation, Nariakira Shimazu’s Coal Kiln, and a view of the beautiful Kinko Bay.
SUZUYAMA NATURE TRAIL
This half day course is located in Shimofukumoto-cho, and can be reached from the Nangoku Kotsu Kaseda bus stop. Over the fifteen kilometres one can see the remains of the Seisen Temple, Chigadaki Falls, the Goddess of Mercy, the ruins of the Tin Mine, and a lovely view of Kagoshima City.
JIGENJI NATURE TRAIL
Also in Shimofukumoto-cho, this is a shorter course covering around three kilometres. One can see Sakura Plaza, the Botanical Garden, Taniyama Shrine and the Somen Nagashi in summer during the one hour walk. Take the Kagoshima Kotsu Bus (number 6) for Jigenji Housing Complex and get off at Jigenji Park Mae bus stop.
