Notification of Change in Residence

Entry from Overseas

For those who have newly entered Japan, and have begun living in Kagoshima City

Period

Within 14 days of having moved to Kagoshima City

Items to bring

*When the person submitting the application, or someone from their household wishes to begin/continue the application process:

Residence Cards for all applicants, received when entering Japan (a Passport is acceptable in the absence of a Residence Card)

Proof of the relationship between the applicant and the head of household, as well as Japanese translation (Example: one’s own country’s Family Register; official or legal documents proving relationship)

*When a representative of one of the above persons wishes to begin/continue the application process:

Residence Cards for all applicants, received when entering Japan (a Passport is acceptable in the absence of a Residence Card)

Entry from Within Japan

For those who have moved from within Japan, and have begun living in Kagoshima City

Period

Within 14 days of having moved to Kagoshima City

Documents proving you have moved from your old location to your new one in Kagoshima City

Residence Cards, or Proof of Special Residents for all people moving

Notification Card (Available for receipt from 5 October 2015)

Proof of National Insurance, Proof of Nursing Insurance, etc. (Only for those eligible)

*When a representative of one of the above persons wishes to begin/continue the application process:

Documents proving they have moved from their old location to their new one in Kagoshima City

Residence Cards, or Proof of Special Residents for all people moving.

Change of Residence

When moving within Kagoshima City (Even when moving within the same building)

Move Within Japan

When moving within Japan (or when moving abroad for over a year)

Within 14 days of changing living location.

Proof of National Insurance, Proof of Nursing Insurance, etc. (Only for those eligible)

Reception Information

These applications can be processed at Kagoshima City Hall Central Citizens’ Division, and all branch offices, but cannot be processed at Kamoike or Kagoshima Central Station Citizens’ Service Stations.

Extension of Stay

Applications to extend your length of stay in Japan must be submitted prior to the expiration date of your current Residence Card, or Proof of Special Residence.

Re-entry Permits

When you intend to travel outside of Japan and return, you must have a re-entry permit to be allowed back into Japan. You will have to use revenue stamps ("shuunyuu inshi") to pay for the permit. The revenue stamps can be purchased from the post office.

9:00~12:00, 13:00~16:00 (excluding weekends and public holidays)

Returning Your Residence Card, or Proof of Special Residence

If you are leaving Japan permanently without a re-entry permit or Refugee Travel Document, you must hand in your Residence Card, or Proof of Special Residence. You will be required to submit it to an immigration inspector at the port of departure. If a registrant has acquired Japanese nationality or dies, then the Alien Registration Card should be given to the Immigration Office, and the Proof of Special Residence returned to the Citizens' Division of City Hall within 14 days of this event occurring.
